Editorial standards

The Atlas is designed to help readers verify a claim, distinguish canon from interpretation, and return to the novel with better bearings.

01 / Purpose

Reader help before search-engine performance.

Neuromancer Atlas is an independent reading companion, not an official encyclopedia and not a substitute for William Gibson’s novel. Entries begin with the question a reader is likely to have in the middle of a scene, then separate what the text states from reconstruction, real-world context, adaptation material, and critical interpretation.

02 / Evidence

A visible source hierarchy.

The novel is the primary authority for canon. Author and publisher material, archival records, scholarly work, standards documentation, and reputable reporting provide context. Community discussions and other fan wikis are useful for locating reader questions, disagreements, and obscure names, but repetition by a community is not treated as proof.

Source notes identify the kind of evidence being used. When the text leaves a gap, the entry says so rather than filling it with invented specifications or biography.

03 / Drafting & review

Machine-assisted work is not an authority.

Research organization and drafting may use machine-assisted tools under editorial direction. Claims are checked against the recorded source trail, quotations are compared with the cited location, internal links are reviewed for meaning, and the final page is evaluated for unsupported certainty. Automation is used to organize evidence and prose; it is not itself cited as evidence.

The date shown on an article records an editorial review, not merely a software deployment. Material corrections receive another review before that date changes.

04 / Quotations

Brief excerpts, used to support commentary.

The Atlas uses short, located excerpts when the wording itself matters. A quotation is kept brief, attributed to Neuromancer, and accompanied by explanation. Pages do not reproduce chapters, extended scenes, or enough text to replace reading the book.
