Molly’s Augmentations
The mirrored lenses, retractable blades, accelerated reflexes, and simstim equipment that support Molly's work while carrying permanent costs.
Molly's body is configured for perception, speed, close combat, and contract work. Mirrored lenses are sealed over her eyes, blades extend from beneath her fingernails, and neurological modification sharpens her reflexes. A simstim transmitter lets Case receive her sensorium during coordinated operations.
The modifications do not make her invulnerable or less embodied. A broken leg slows her through Straylight, Riviera damages a lens, and pain reaches Case through the broadcast. Her equipment expresses professional control while also recording the market pressures and violence that made such control necessary.

The silver lenses replace ordinary visible eyes as Molly's public face. They provide display and sensory functions but also prevent conventional eye contact; even intimacy with Case cannot reveal the color beneath them. Tears drain internally, making emotion physically present while externally concealed.
Case's simstim reception reverses that arrangement without removing it. He sees through the modified optics and can register their information, yet he still cannot look back at Molly as an unmediated face or know what she thinks. When Riviera damages a lens, the private injury arrives through the feed while the silver exterior remains part of the body she must continue using.
Razors and reflexes
Her blades are integrated rather than carried, allowing sudden close-range violence. Enhanced reflexes let her exploit that surprise and move at a speed Case experiences viscerally through simstim. The razorgirl identity comes from training and judgment as much as installed hardware.
The operational simstim rig
Molly broadcasts what she senses while remaining the sole controller of her body. Case uses the stream to coordinate matrix work and monitor the infiltration. The rig makes her body part of the team's information system without giving Case access to her unspoken thoughts.
Cost, maintenance, and injury
The text places premium modification beside material failure. Molly's leg has not fully healed from Sense/Net, and Riviera's attack turns a sophisticated lens into a painful liability. Her body remains repairable but never disposable, despite a labor market that treats it as equipment.
Augmentations under pressure
The opening encounter in Case's coffin establishes how Molly controls revelation. Her mirrored lenses are already visible, but she displays the blades only after disarming him, converting an apparently empty hand into proof of threat. At Sense/Net, the simstim feed lets Case experience the speed produced by her reflex modifications and the pain that those reflexes cannot prevent. The same body can outperform guards and still break against force and architecture.
Straylight tests each system separately. The lenses overlay information and function in darkness until Riviera smashes one; the transmitter continues sending while Molly is restrained; her blades do not free her hands from 3Jane's device; the old leg injury finally makes Hideo's capture possible. These failures are not evidence that the modifications are cosmetic. They show a professional system with distinct components, each useful within limits and each capable of becoming another site of pain.
